More free .edu backlinks using guestbooks

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or get your blog updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

This is the fifth post in The Link Building Cookbook series of finding the best places to add links to your websites or blogs to help increase website traffic.

Guestbooks are the “old school” form of comments that you now see on all of the big websites and blogs. Guestbooks allowed you to place your name, email or website, and a brief comment on a big page of other comments. Although the majority has updated to using comments on their website, you can still find a lot of places to add your links on through guestbooks. Best of all, a lot of the old universities still have active guestbooks that you can get links from. Here are a few examples:

PR5
http://lsa.colorado.edu/guestbook-add.html
http://www.campusrec.neu.edu/partsearchten/guestbook.html

PR4
http://www.studentorg.umd.edu/phibetasigma/guestbook.php
http://nsa.union.rpi.edu/Guest/nsagb.php

PR3
http://www.public.iastate.edu/~bethanyt/guestbook.html
http://www.uaf.edu/webauthors/wagb.html

PR2
http://cratel.wichita.edu/guestbook/pblguestbook.php?action=view

PR0
http://aragorn.scam.ecu.edu.au/ronline/Board.php?AppID=97&TopicID=1&ClassID=0&mode=Topics
http://acm.poly.edu/~altecha/guestbook/gbook.php?page=1
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~amarna/phpfusion/infusions/guestbook/guestbook.php?rowstart=40

[Nofollow]
http://sea.unu.edu/wiki/index.php/MediaWiki_talk:Yourname

These are just a few examples of what you can find. If you are looking for more, I recommend utilizing a few google queries like I talked about previously.

Nice compilation. I’ll try to use it some time. But if such sites are exploited by morons selling viagra and penis enlargement pills, it would be really sad. I think .edu links are perhaps the most sought-after ones these days. Keep ‘em coming. :)

I just checked the LSA @ CU Boulder http://lsa.colorado.edu/ but found their guestbook empty. Is it something wrong?

Looks like LSA disabled their guestbook, most likely from a blog post like this! Oh well, for every one that gets taken down, two new ones appear.

you wont see me putting my link on these sites, they are nothing more then link farms now in the eyes of google and it will hurt your site. I advise you take this list down or it will end up hurting people that have already added their links.

You are entitled to your opinion, but a few of these links still pass a LOT of authority, so I would not agree entirely. It is however, always smart to pick and choose the ones you submit to.

Thanks … i ‘ve just completed adding my websites in all the guestbooks but dont u thinks the “Nofollow” in the last link “http://sea.unu.edu/wiki/index.php/MediaWiki_talk:Yourname”, …. it is better not to place my link as its a NoFollow and google only caches Dofollow??

Nofollow means google will not visit it, correct. Nofollow links will still raise your rankings in many other search engines though.

A few didn’t work too well, but like you said, when one goes down, 2 more pop up!
