Mashable is your #1 Big Bad Boost for Beginner Bloggers

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or get your blog updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

This is the eleventh post in The Link Building Cookbook series, showing you all of the hidden techniques of building links to your website or blogs to increase website traffic.

One of my favorite blogs that I subscribe to is Mashable.com. Mashable is the internet’s largest social networking blog, and frequently ranks in the top 10 blogs overall according to Technorati. Unlike most other extremely popular blogs (Techcrunch, Engadget, etc), Mashable receives far less comments on every post. This is an extremely good thing for you though! The main reason Mashable posts get less comments than Techcrunch for example is that Techcrunch usually leaves a post on the homepage for 10-12 hours, while Mashable can crank out 20 to 30 posts per day. So now that you have some background information on one of my favorite blogs, lets get down to business.

How can Mashable benefit my site/blog?

  1. Mashable loves exclusive news, and if they write an article on your site/widget, you get a lot of traffic
  2. Mashable has a lot of sites that copy their RSS feeds, including a PR8 link from Rojo.com which means if you get featured, within 48 hours you will have hundreds of anchor text links as well as all of that traffic
  3. Mashable allows you to have your own profile page
  4. On your profile page, you can list many RSS feeds to give your websites updated backlinks
  5. Mashable.com is a pagerank 7 authority blog.
  6. If you link to any post on Mashable, you will get a PR7 trackback from the homepage temporarily.
  7. Every post has few comments, so you can easily stand out
  8. Unlike most blogs, Mashable comments give a link back to your website, as well as your profile.
  9. With a few comments, your websites can get indexed very quickly, and your profile page can get PR4-6
  10. With a high pagerank authority profile, your updated RSS feeds will constantly get indexed and rank in Google
  11. Everything takes seconds and is completely free!

How can I get started?

  1. Increase traffic: If you have a groundbreaking story, cool new web2.0 website, social network news, or other exclusive story, email them.
  2. Link builders: Register a free profile, add your RSS feeds to your profile, and make 5 comments per day

My experience (A possible outcome)

  1. Mashable has featured both of my startups rssHugger and WordHugger.
  2. WordHugger made over $1800 in the first 24 hours of the Mashable post
  3. I have made about 25-30 comments, (Takes less than an hour over the course of a few days)
  4. Every single comment shares some site authority when search engines read that page, and then they index my site again
  5. Every comment also links to my profile, which is now a pagerank 5, and lists updated RSS feeds to share authority with
  6. All of the links are permanent, and the WordHugger Mashable post has a pagerank of 5.
  7. I have sponsored a contest, which resulted in hundreds more visitors, as well as making me $250 more profit
  8. I can now contact the Mashable lead writer when I want them to do an exclusive story

All in all, Mashable is one of the few top50 (top 10 for that matter) blogs that actually helps out the little guys in return for sharing their opinion. I recommend all of you read Mashable and comment every so often on stories that interest you, as it will benefit both you and their site. Everything is free, and Mashable has definitely earned my respect. I will most likely continue to have my killer launches posted on Mashable before I submit any press releases anywhere else. All of my 30 comments will most likely be on pages that are PR2-PR5 when Google updates it’s pagerank again in a few months, making my comments worth even more authority than they are now. Everything is completely free, so I cannot stress enough how much I recommend making Mashable one blog that you participate in whenever you can. The blog has helped me to a great extent, and I know it can help you too.

This information is so good. In fact it should have been kept secret by many bloggers out there. Thank you so much for sharing this. Will you allow me to sum up your finding on my blog? I always want to share such great info with others.

BTW, where is the check box for subscribe to comments?

I disabled it as I generally get annoyed when I wake up to 50 emails about comments on a popular blog post. If that is just my personal opinion, I can reenable them.

As for ’summing it up’, the answer is yes. As stated on The Link Building Cookbook: “Feel free to copy any segment of the Link Building Cookbook onto your own blog, so long as proper credit is given.”

I’m diving head-first into this link building business as a newbie. I like your ideas and I’m going to try them out. This seems like a better alternative than BlogRush as I don’t quite understand if their stats=real traffic to me. Anyway, I’ll be checking into your blog. Thanks!

I wonder what idetrorce doesn’t agree with? I think this is a great idea… it is really using the power of social networking to promote. If people spam mashable, i hope they get banned. If people can provide good feedback and get rewarded for it? Even better.

If you start a service as described in the type in the above article, then this is probably one of the best sites to use to promote it….

I continue to be amazed by the amount of very very in depth and and substance posts you have.
