As most of you know, I love finding innovative places that my readers can build links, and today is no exception. Drupal is a massively popular open source framework for websites. The homepage for it is located at drupal.org, and that is the target for todays link building campaign. Drupal is a community focused system, so their site allows users to register and fill out a profile. Inside your profile you are allowed to link to your homepage (I would assume it is supposed to be for your site that is using Drupal). However, no verification is done so you may put your own blog inside. You will get your own user page and a link to your blog will be dofollow (good for search engines), but it does not stop there.
Inside your profile you can enter in as many interests as you want. Every single interest you type in has a separate “tag” page. For example, if I said I was interested in the keyword make money blogging, my profile (and a link to my site) would appear on the drupal tag page.
Now if you were to enter a large amount of keywords (I would say 20-30 is more than enough), you will have built 20-30 small links as well as a stronger link from your profile. All of these links will also increase the PR of your profile page, which ultimately brings more authority over to your domain. If you are one of the people who only looks at the short term goals, please know that a few older profiles have pagerank 6, and the drupal.org has a pagerank of 9. Drupal is an authority powerhouse, so enjoy leeching some of that search engine love.
Total start to finish time for building these 20-30 (or 200) links is around 10 minutes, so I recommend anyone that is interested in a bit of greyhat unethical link building to give it a shot.

I’m so sick of hearing people bitch about “internet morals”… Screw Google and any other site out there that tells you what’s acceptable and what’s not. Links are links… The more of them that you can get, the better off you are. The wonderful thing about the internet, is that you can do pretty much anything you want. (Virtually) <—Using that as a literal term.
Who cares? Obviously the ones who decide to sort and offer the relevant data to users. You call it about “morals” but it’s actually an argument of “quality”.
Just a shot in the dark but i’m guessing you don’t depend on a website for income.
Well the problem with this is that quality sites can’t get traffic anymore. Quality sites are having to compete for the serps.
That is why I do not give a toss about google’s rules etc.
Another great idea that I’ve never heard of. Keep it up!

Just a tip for people manually typing out a few keywords…
go to freekeywords.wordtracker.com and type in a broad term to describe your site E.G: “acne” if your site is on “acne treatment cream”
c&p the list you get and paste into excel or w/e spreadsheet app you use. c&p the list and paste into notepad (to get rid of hyperlink). copy that list and paste straight into “interests”.
300 or so backlinks.

Thanks for all the tips in your link building cookbook. I’ve found the Flickr techniques great and found a way to find photos with PR, some even up to a PR5. I’ll have to check this one out as well.
Just one question - How spam proof are emails given to drupal?
Make an anonymous gmail account for your link building campaigns. Check it once every few weeks and you should be good to go.

This is pretty cool. I have around 60 sites built using drupal and hadn’t even thought of this. My existing drupal profile is even a PR 4 already and I’d hadn’t even added my URL.
