I saw a viral ‘million dollar idea’ site off a forum thread, and I thought I would do my part and keep the viral traffic rolling. One individual from the Netherlands decided that he wanted to make his money by doing nothing but sleeping. He has dedicated a site to make money off this idea and has called his site Sleeping Rich. He has chosen to isolate himself for an unknown number of days (”until I am rich”), and has a streaming webcam of his actions. While I do not know the significance of him “sleeping” to gain his riches, it still seems like a crazy idea that a lot of people will talk about. When I first heard about the site, it had 150,000 visitors, and less than four hours later it is at 167,000, showing that it is starting to snowball.

The site says he has made $9443.86 so far, and has been sitting in his room for 22 days, 12 hours. While I have no doubts that he will make a nice wad of cash, I could never see myself isolating myself for nearly a month… and by the looks of it this fellow might even be in there for a few more. The only time he is allowed to leave is 30 minutes for a shower and to go to the bathroom.

While this is one ridiculous way to make money, you gotta give the man credit for being creative.

The two things that I don’t like are that the site is about him sleeping his way to riches, but in the cam he has been awake all day in his room. Maybe it would have been better to just stream your life live instead of just sleeping all day. The only other flaw is that you have to email them to advertise on the site, which might bring revenues down. At any rate, it is always fun to see creative thinkers.
