Pagerank Update July 2008

The words have been spoken straight from Mr. Google himself (Matt Cutts).

Hey folks, I wanted to let you know that new toolbar PageRank values should become visible over the next few days. I’m expecting that also in the next few days that we’ll be expiring some older penalties on websites.

For those of you who actively participate in the webmaster forums… prepare for the usual chaos of 50% of the people extremely pissed off and complaining, as well as the other half who are gloating in their newfound numbers.

Whether or not Google gives me a 1 or a 7 I don’t really mind. I will predict that my blog goes from a 5 to a 4, otherwise I may get “lucky” and have it barely stay a 5… although I doubt it because I haven’t done any link building in months (or even written any link building tips in over 60 days).

I rank #1 for my name, #1 and an authority for my brand, #1 for my link building guide, and my search engine traffic has increased overall phenomenally. So far this month, organic google searches have accounted for 24.99% of my total traffic. Google sent 921 total visits via 526 keywords for the first 24 days of July… talk about long tail keywords…

I do expect my client’s websites pagerank numbers to increase as those sites are a never-ending work in progress. For those of you who live and die by the number Google assigns you… I wish your websites good luck in this update. For those of you who will soon be complaining that you went from a PR6 to a PR1… just know that you can always apply at your local McDonald’s.

Just kidding. :)

Yah…. it looks like I am going from PR 1 to PR 3…. no biggie…. it goes up, it goes down…. as long as my SERP rankings keep going closer to #1 pagerank can suck it.

I am more interested to see the search ranks change, although I am not sure that they are directly connected to the page rank update.

Hey Colin, I hope you haven’t abandoned the Link Building Cookbook and the long-awaited Chapter 34…..60 days is a long time to keep your fans waiting! (LOL)

I just wish that my blog keep PR 4. For so long I hasn’t been building any new links.

Unfortunately I checked just now and it’s dropped to PR 3…. so sad. Look like my plan to make money using a high PR domain is doomed.

Curious though as to why you would “expect” a PR drop on your page. If your links are quality links, shouldn’t it have remained the same? I do like your take on the fact that you’re not dying by the PR that google assigns, the traffic from searches seems there and that’s significant.

My link building cookbook portion of my blog is the most popular section since last November when I started it. I haven’t had a good link building update in over 2 months, and thus haven’t used any new link building techniques since that time.

Less promotion = less benefit.

Yeah man, people are going pretty crazy over it. I’ll admit, I have no idea how it works. But it’s fun to watch and see the frenzy start up when the first updates start to appear…and then see the reactions and people hoping that it “may change in a few days”. I know some don’t care and some do…I’ll just take what I get and keep moving.

My clients did great, whereas my website went down. However, I’m just starting to free up sometime for me to work on my own website. I expect some huge jumps by the next time around.

I am thankful that my domain finally got indexed! There seems to be some issue with .za.com domains getting indexed by Google, but after over two months and serious link building we’ve finally been indexed. No PR yet….

the infamous pagerank update… its exciting the first few times around for some reason… but the more and more i blog and work online… the less i seem to care about it
