Wordpress 2.5 is out!

Posted in Blogging> General

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or get your blog updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

I have just finished upgrading to Wordpress 2.5, and it has a LOT of changes. I normally wait for an extra update before I take the time to get the newest version, but 2.5 is like four updates in one.

It completely changes the look and feel to the administrator panel, and it while it will take about 20 minutes to get use to, it will save a lot of time reading, writing, and moderating posts. Everything is nearly the same as it was before, but now it is a LOT easier to get to the pages you want to, and update what needs to be updated. The new look and feel is very web2.0, and I would dare say even a little cartoon like.

Video Engine Optimization (VEO)

Everyone is familiar with search engine optimization (SEO), but I have just stumbled across some people who (accidentally) have optimized their videos to be heavily promoted. Have you ever considered making an advertisement/commercial video and submitting it to the video sites? Sure, everyone has. The problem is getting people to see it.

Well, have you considered registering a username for a typo of the site you are submitting to? Just looking at popular typos of youtube (such as youtub). — People’s videos have received literally MILLIONS of views. Imagine if instead of their stupid video it was a 5 second video advertisement… you would see a nice burst of traffic and sales!

Bought an iPhone

Posted in Blogging> General> Off-Topic

I had been using the same phone for three years and knew it was time for an upgrade. I bought the apple iphone and have to say that I absolutely love it. I can setup all of my emails on it, browse the web, youtube it up, check the status of my websites (mediatemple has an iPhone compatible section), and even login to wordpress. If you are planning on getting a new phone soon, I recommend testing out an iPhone at your local Mac shop.

Did I mention that I wrote this entire blog post from my phone? :-)

Do any of you use an iPhone or other browser compatible phones?

Miscellaneous Link Building

Posted in General> Link Building> SEO

Here is a few link building posts to increase your rank in the search engines. Unlike what most bloggers do, I am not going to rehash the content as my own in hopes of increasing my readership, but rather just send you to the actual sources.

CSS Gallery List
While promoting my blog, I found a CSS directory that showcased nice looking CSS templates on their site. I submitted my blog, it got approved, and sent over 75 visitors along with three PR4 links. Upon seeing this success, I started collecting lists of these sites so I could make a post with all of them so that all of my readers could do mass-submission for a ton of very powerful links. When I started searching Google for more sites, I found a site that was already doing what I was going to do, so enjoy your 30+ high traffic/pr links by submitting your (nice looking CSS designed) site to the CSS Gallery List.

Startup Weekend City Vote

Startup Weekend is an awesome idea invented in 2007 by Andrew Hyde. In a nutshell, the idea is to bring a bunch of small business entrepreneurs into one room, and have everyone work together to create a company in 54 hours. With a bunch of like-minded individuals, I can only imagine how many creative ideas are bounced off each other. So far there has already been eight cities that met with success, and Andrew is planning at least 10 more. Right now they are offering a “city vote” on which city gets to be the host for the next Startup Weekend, and my local city Minneapolis is one of the cities up for vote.
