This is part two of the Miscellaneous Link Building post. These two posts are quick posts, and their only purpose is to show you websites where you can build links to increase your blog’s rank in the search engine. Since most of these methods are quick and simple, I have thrown them into one (two) quick posts.
http://kbcafe.com
Former PR6 site (Got penalized, now its PR3). It features 6 blogs that are all PR3-6 and are very aged. It is run on a custom blogging software (not Wordpress), and so the comments are auto approved and are dofollow. Back when I ran myspace proxies, I use to drop my myspace proxy site links all over the meta-myspace mini-blog and Google saw it as powerful related backlinks. The effect may have been lowered after it got penalized, but hundreds of related links can still send a heap of search engine traffic.
http://news.ycombinator.com/
If you have any hacker or tech related news, you can submit it here. If it gets approved by the editors, you are looking at a lot of traffic as well as an authority PR6 backlink. (Although I haven’t had anything approved when I tried).
If you have a lot of freetime, here is some general .edu/.gov links. [A lot will be nofollow]
Search these strings on Google:
site:.edu [YOUR KEYWORD HERE] blog
site:.edu “post a comment” -”you must be logged in” -”comments closed”
site:.edu inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments
site:.gov [YOUR KEYWORD HERE] blog
site:.gov “post a comment” -”you must be logged in” -”comments closed”
site:.gov inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments
site:.mil [YOUR KEYWORD HERE] blog
site:.mil “post a comment” -”you must be logged in” -”comments closed”
site:.mil inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments

Here is a few link building posts to increase your rank in the search engines. Unlike what most bloggers do, I am not going to rehash the content as my own in hopes of increasing my readership, but rather just send you to the actual sources.
CSS Gallery List
While promoting my blog, I found a CSS directory that showcased nice looking CSS templates on their site. I submitted my blog, it got approved, and sent over 75 visitors along with three PR4 links. Upon seeing this success, I started collecting lists of these sites so I could make a post with all of them so that all of my readers could do mass-submission for a ton of very powerful links. When I started searching Google for more sites, I found a site that was already doing what I was going to do, so enjoy your 30+ high traffic/pr links by submitting your (nice looking CSS designed) site to the CSS Gallery List.
7 High PR Dofollow Forums
– Looks like a continuation but with more forums here. If you have not read my post about building links from .edu forums, then that goes well with this forum link building theme too.
104 ways to get backlinks.
Features 104 different ways to get backlinks in this linkbait post. As most of you know already, I am always blunt with great link building ideas and I show you exactly how to get them. Unlike my blog, this list provides zero help for actually getting a single link out of it, but I have included it anyway because for some reason people still enjoy these (not-so-helpful) lists.
Using Digg to get offline promotions
In addition to the Digg links you get, read this post for tips on how to get massive offline promotions as well.

I have been running websites for over a year, but have only recently been blogging. The search engines look at blogs a lot differently than they do for static websites, so I have listed a few simple SEO tweaks that will help your blog rank higher in the search engines and have your blog be more visible to the readers.
Install All in One SEO
All in One SEO is a plugin for Wordpress that does all of the hard work of building correct titles and search engine optimized descriptions for you. After you install this plugin and set it up properly, you only need to focus on link building and writing great content. What a timesaver!
After you have setup and installed All in One SEO, here are a few ways to optimize it for the search engines:
1.) Have your main keyword at the front of your title
Your blog’s homepage is the most powerful page on it. Search engines will rank you higher for your keyword if it is at the front of the title. In a nutshell, use “Make money blogging with Collin LaHay’s blog” instead of “Collin LaHay’s blog helps you make money blogging.”
2.) Use a maximum of two keywords in meta description
If you have zero keywords in your meta description, you will be losing out on search engine traffic. On the other hand, if you have your keyword 20 times in the meta description you will not get any SE traffic. I recommend using 1 to 2 references to your keyword in your description.
3.) Noindex duplicate pages
Your tags, archives, and category pages are so that visitors (not search engines) can find your content easily. All of these pages are completely run on duplicated content found elsewhere on your blog. If a search engine finds your categories page as well as your homepage, your blog will get a duplicate content penalty. Always make sure not to index these types of pages.
4.) Do not add your keyword in all your titles
I originally made this mistake by adding, *title* | Make Money Blogging, to every page on my blog. This DOES NOT help you rank higher, and only lowers your relevancy to search engine traffic. By removing your keyword, you will be able to rank for whatever is in *title* more than you did before. You have all the time in the world to start ranking for your main keyword, but until then you want to rank highly for every blog post you ever write!
For those that learn by pictures, I have included a picture of my All in One SEO setup below:

I hope this helped some of you. If you have any other tips to recommend, or any questions that you are wondering, feel free to ask them in the comments or by emailing me.

4/21/2008 Update: Right now, the site is redirecting to lifehack.org. Either the site has closed down, or the website was temporarily hacked. Try visiting listible.com and if it redirects you, then you can save your time by skipping this post, as it would be no longer valid.
For those of you who love building thousands of links from my different methods, you are in for another treat. While normally I blog about secret techniques that nobody else is talking about, this one has been a bit popular on Digitalpoint. I cannot take credit for this one (21/22 is a pretty good record I would say), I still want to tell you about it. Every single link counts and so I wanted to let those who haven’t heard about Listible join the fun.
Listible is a super simple website that displays lists about nearly everything. If you have a list about blog posts that are related to soccer, you can make a list for it. There are literally zero rules for what kind of lists you can build, meaning I can even make a list called Test List12345 when it has zero purpose. Well, make that one purpose. You can add “resources” to every list, which include a search engine friendly link to your favorite site! Since Listible is completely text (other than a logo), the search engines absolutely love it. Some pages are PR4-7 and you can put your link on all of them (so long as it is somewhat related). Otherwise you can make your own lists (some useful, some not). At any rate, more free PR4-7 links are always awesome so if you do not feel like spending $20-200/m on more links, go hit up Listible.
While Listible will be a great link building method for awhile, it already looks like it is getting a lot of porn spammers on it so do not expect this gravy train to stay. Until Google drops the hammer on this site, feel free to nuke it up with some of your links!
This is part 23 of my series called the link building cookbook that aims to be the ultimate free guide on how to build massive amounts of links without paying one penny!
